Why is there going to be less meat in the future?
Firstly, we can note a significant increase in the vegetarianism movement. Indeed, in the United States, the percentage of adults that self identify as vegetarians has increased from 1% in the mid 1990's to around 6% in 2018. More and more people are becoming conscious of the animal cause and are trying to decrease their meat consumption. Therefore, if less and less people eat meat, there will be less meat around in the future.
Secondly, meat has an extremely important ecological footprint on our environment. Indeed, the water footprint to produce 1kg of meat is around 15,455 liters of water. Consumable water is getting rarer, and by 2050, 6 billion people are planned to suffer from water scarcity. The less water there is on the planet, the more it will have to be used judiciously and the less it will be wasted. Therefore, humans will not be able to afford spending fifteen thousand liters of water on a small kilogram of meat.
