Martin Luther King was a hero to my eyes. I was in Memphis during his last speech in 1968. Unfortunately, he was assassinated very shortly after.
He shared his wisdom despite all the racial tensions taking place. He always believed that economic injustice was just as damaging as racial injustice. He had the support of the workers and students of all ages. He gave us hope and the poorest were inspired by his words. He gave them the energy needed to climb the mountain and to never let defeat invade them.
He gave me strength in the most difficult times and showed me the greatness of human capacity. He won many victories before his passing. One of them is the Civil Rights Act of 1964 followed by the Voting Rights Act in 1965. He must have been smiling in heaven with Obama's election. Although America is still a divided nation, King fought to end discrimination.
I try to help the people in need and apply King's philosophy in my every day life. I achieved my life with his encouraging words. Always remember that we can achieve anything with perseverance. Never let go of your dreams.
