  3. Yesterday, at two o'clock in the afternoon, Mary Blood and her cousin were playing videogames, and weren't reading magazines.
  4. Yesterday, at two o'clock in the afternoon, Suzy Funny was runing in the park.

  1. She was tinkering when she heard a loud noise.
  2. While we were working, a student screamed in the hallway.
  3. They were waiting for a phone call for the ransom.
  4. Were you wating for your neighbour in front of the sport store ?
  5. The victim was lying on the kitchen floor whil her dog barked.

Explications :

Pour former le preterit en be + ing, il suffit de prendre la base verbale du verbe que l'on souhaite conjuguer, et de lui rajouter la forme "ing".

Par exemple, le verbe "to walk", marcher.

On prend la base "walk", et on lui rajoute "ing", ce qui donne "walking"

Mais il manque l'auxiliaire, car pour l'instant on n'a pris que le "ing" du "be + ing", on a besoin du "be".

Il suffit de le conjuguer au preterit, ce qui donne :

I was, you was, he was, we were, you were, they were.

En le rajoutant avec notre "walking", cela donne :

I was walking, you was walking, he was walking, we were walking, you were walking, they were walking.

Pour la négation, on rajoute le "not" :

I was not walking / we were not walking

Et la forme contractée :

I wasn't walking / we wern't walking

Pour l'interrogation, on inverse l'auxiliaire et le sujet  :

Was I walking ? / Were we walking ?
