On the Mario cover, the characters look joyful and the colors are very bright whereas the Dark Souls one is dark, sad and even scary. At the bottom left hand corner, we can notice that Mario is PEGI 3 while Dark Souls is PEGI 16, which means that Super Mario Bros is made for everyone, it doesn't contain any inappropriate content but Dark Souls mainly targets adults and young adults.
