In 1620 a group of PILGRIMS sailed from ENGLAND to America. The NAME of the boat was the MAYFLOWER.They wanted to START a new life in AMERICA and practise their RELIGION in freedom. The Pilgrims got to America in DECEMBER. They landed at a place on the NORTH— east coast of America. They called it PLYMOUTH. Their first WINTER in America was very COLD. They had little FOOD and they knew little about their new home. Many of them became ILL and died. When SPRING arrived, the Native Americans decided to HELP the Pilgrims. They taught them how to PLANT  and grow CORN, cereals, fruit and vegetables. They showed the newcomers how to fish and  HUNT. The Pilgrims WORKED hard and their crop grew. In November 1961, the HARVEST was very good and they had plenty of food. To THANK the NATIVE Americans, they invited them to a special DINNER to celebrate their friendship. This feast was the first THANKSGIVING.
