this text is about segregation. mrs. strickler is a customer who goes to a shoe store, and when she waits for her turn to be served the store manager sends her behind the store to separate her from the white people. this text tells how visible segregation is. Shocked, she sees many people of color in the back of the store. She realizes that customers of color are not welcome in the company of white people.
