Amelia Mary Earhart, also known as Lady Lindy, born in Atchison on July 24, 1897 and disappeared in the Pacific Ocean on July 2, 1937, was an American aviator. She is famous in particular for having been, in June 1928, the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean by plane and then, in 1932, the first woman to cross it alone.
