==> He asked her if she knew his cousin.
Il lui a demandé : « Connais-tu mon cousin ? »
Il lui a demandé si elle connaissait son cousin.
6. He told him: « I don’t understand why you are talking such nonsense! »
==> He told him he didn’t understand why he was talking such nonsense.
7. He ordered her: « Make your bed! »
==> He ordered her to make her bed.
8. He asked me: « Are you going to London in April? »
He asked me if I was going to London in April.
9. She told me: « The baby began to cry. »
==> She told me ( that ) the baby had begun to cry.
10. I told them: « I have not prepared anything to eat. »
==> I told them I hadn’t prepared anything to eat.
Explications :
- Lorsque l'on passe du discour direct au discours indirect, il faut faire attention à la concordance des temps:
DISCOURS DIRECT DISCOURS INDIRECT
Présent simple ------------------------> Prétérit simple
will ------------------------> would
Présent BE + V-ing -----------------> Prétérit BE + V-ing
Prétérit simple -------------------> Past perfect
Présent perfect --------------------> Past perfect
- Lorsqu'une phrase est à l'impératif au discours direct, on emploi l'infinitif au discours indirect ( ex : phrases 3 et 7 )
- Attention aux changements de pronom ...
