The Titanic was a British transatlantic liner on the White Star Line, built on the initiative of Bruce Ismay in 1907 and designed by architect Thomas Andrews of harland & Wolff shipyard. Construction began in Belfast in 1909 and was completed in 1912. It was the most luxurious and largest liner ever built at launch. It's structure is identical to an almost identical ship, the Olympic. The Titanic was equipped with sixteen watertight compartments to protect the ship from major damage. The media gave it the image of a reliable ship, even if contrary to the legends broadcast after the sinking, it was never considered unbreakable.
