Hi everybody,
First of all, let’s introduce today’s topic : we will talk about the causes of unequal pay between men and women.
We will divide separate the reasons in three different categories :
The first one will be the legal reasons
The second one are going to be the economic reasons
And last but not least, the social reasons
Legal reasons :
Lack of employment equality.Only 6 countries in the world give women the same legal work rights as men. In fact, most economies give women only ¾ the rights of men. Studies show that if employment became a more even playing field, it has a positive domino effect on other areas prone to gender inequality.
economical reasons :
Segregation in the labour market also reinforces the gender pay gap. Women and men still tend to work in different jobs.
social reasons : The main cause is the way in which women's skills are valued compared to men's.but there’s also :
The STEREOTYPES !! :Segregation is frequently linked to stereotypes. While around 60% of new university graduates are women, they are a minority in fields like mathematics, computing and engineering. Consequently, fewer women work in scientific and technical jobs, while women often work in lower valued and lower paid sectors of the economy
Finally, the last social reason is the work life balance.Let me explain, more women than men choose to take parental leave. This, together with a lack of childcare facilities, means that women are often forced to leave the labour market.
