Paul Sheldon is a writer . He became famous thanks to the adventures of Misery . He has just finished a novel in a hotel in the colorader , but when he leaves , he is victim of a car accident caused by a snowstorm . Paul unconscious, is saved by a former nurse : Annie Wildro . She heals Paul who is then between life and death for several days . Annie tells him to be his biggest admirer but Paul notices that his behavior is not normal .
When she discovers the writer's new manuscript , she start reading it . She argues with him over the heroine's death . Annie then forces him to burn it and start a new one to resuscitate the heroine . A policeman comes to Annie's house to question her about Paul's disouppearance . He there fore tries to signal his presence but Annie kills the policeman with a shot .
