Adjectives are used to describe Minette Swift:
Her face : « striking face »; « fierce, sharp-boned, round, rather flat, with dark
skin (...) bursting». Her hair is « wedge-shaped, stiff and jutting like wires ».
Her eyes are described as « small and deep-set and evasive ... thick-
lashed », she wore « shell- pink plastic glasses ».

The narrator is a white. She is attracted by Minette’s personality and her physical appearance

Both Minette and Genna are students. They share the same room ( they are
roommates ) and are Christians.
They don’t really like to be with others.
Their differences are their skin colour and their social background.
Minette seems scornful whereas Genna seems to be kind, open-minded.

It was difficult to become friend with Minette because she was weird. Genna
