Past perfect ( had + participe passé )s'utilise pour des actions antèrieures à des actions passées ( On dit que c'est du passé dans le passé )
ex : my wife told me that she hadn’t heard (not hear) me at all.
ma femme m'a dit qu'elle ne m'avait pas entendu du tout.
Le lendemain matin sa femme lui a dit ( prétérit. c'est passé ) qu'elle ne l'avait pas entendu ( past perfect car elle ne l'a pas entendu pendant la nuit, donc avant )
