Sherlock Holmes is an English fictional character (he is not real) created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930). He is a highly intelligent private investigator with a remarkable memory and sense of observation that helps him solve puzzles after collecting clues.

He was born in January 1854, but it's unclear on what day. Sherlock Holmes is a bachelor. Tall, slim, elegant, he smokes a pipe, cigarettes and cigars. Doctor John Watson accompanies him on almost all of his adventures. His only family is his older brother, Mycroft. He is also the grand-nephew of the French painter Horace Vernet.

The character of Sherlock Holmes has been the subject of numerous works, but also of films and television series.
