It is called the "shepherd's star" but venus is a planet and it is very bright, at night it is visible above the horizon and shines brighter than any other star as it is close to the sun and reflects a lot of its light.
A star produces light, while a planet reflects the light of its sun. Stars, huge balls of hot gas, shine because their size and mass are large. They are much larger than rocky or gaseous planets.
