Australia, in long form the Commonwealth of Australia (in English: Australia and Commonwealth of Australia), is a country in the southern hemisphere whose area covers most of Oceania. In addition to the eponymous island, Australia also includes Tasmania as well as other islands in the Southern, Pacific and Indian Oceans. It also claims 6,000,000 km2 in Antarctica. Neighboring nations include Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea to the north, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the French territory of New Caledonia to the northeast, New Zealand to the southeast as well as the French territory of the Kerguelen Islands west of the Australian Heard-and-McDonald Islands.
