In 1950, a man wearing sideburns, looking like he was from the Victorian era, was walking the streets of Times Square. According to witnesses, he looked surprised and confused. A minute later, he was hit by a car and died at the scene.
At the morgue, they searched his body and found the following items in his pockets:
- A copper token of a beer worth 5 cents, bearing the name of a sedan, which was unknown even to the oldest people in the area.
- A paper invoice for the care of a horse and the washing of a car, registered in the name of a stable on Lexington Avenue, which does not appear in any address book.
- About $ 70 worth of old banknotes.
- A business card with Rudolph Fentz's name and a 5th Avenue address
- A letter from Philadelphia sent to this address, dated June 1876.
The objects showed no signs of aging.
The story is said to be taken from a science fiction story called I’m Scared, written by American author Jack Finney and published in Collier’s magazine in 1951.
