New Year's Eve is a worldwide celebration. It is a feast that consists of celebrating the first day of a new year.
On New Year's Day people celebrate with friends and family for example. You can also celebrate the new year by going outside and blowing up firecrackers, or you can watch other people do it. On New Year's Day you can also watch fireworks.
But where does this party come from? It all started 46 years before Julius Caesar who is a Roman emperor who decided that the first of January would be the New Year's Day. This feast is dedicated to the god Janus who is the god of the gates of the beginning. The root of the word January comes from Janus. The date of the new year has changed several times in the course of history but in 1622 the date was set again to the first of January. In China the new year starts on January 20th and ends on February 18th.
