Bonjour,
In 1605 Guy Fawkes, a Catholic, and his conspiratorial friends tried to blow up Parliament (while King James I was inside), as they disagreed with the King's policy regarding Protestants. They managed to store 30 barrels of powder in a cellar below the Parliament, but before Parliament opened on November 5, the "Powder Conspiracy" (as it was later to be called) had been discovered. Guy Fawkes and his friends were executed for treason.
"Guy Fawkes Night" is also known as "Bonfire Night" or "Fireworks Night".
