Introduction :
For centuries, great writers of American literature have recounted the ongoing stigma and violence suffered by African Americans in a country where racism has taken root. Whether written by black or white authors, some of these works have particularly marked their time, raising awareness and shaking up public opinion. From the days of slavery to segregation to police violence, the United States is once again mourning the murder of an African-American named George Floyd during a police arrest.
Description and analysis :
This is a black and white photo, and we can see a black-skinned person with a mask over his mouth and nose, he is running, and it looks like he is trying to escape from the people behind him. The people chasing him are police officers with batons and overalls to defend themselves, there are at least more than twenty of them, while the person running away is alone. They're in the middle of the street and in the middle of the road I think because there's a sign right above the police. There are big buildings to their left but there is no one to come and help him, it looks like they are all scared and have gone into hiding.
Conclusion :
This document illustrates the stigmatization and racism against blacks in America and we see years that are crossed out in black as 1968, which represents a century when there was a sudden exacerbation of racial tensions after the abolition of slavery. 2015 is also crossed out because it represents the date of death of a black man named Adama Traoré, who died of asphyxiation by a police officer during an arrest. And the date 2020 is not yet crossed out because it represents today's world and we do not yet know whether racism and this kind of action will finally be abolished or not. This photo tries to show us the evolution of racism in America and the world and to force us to think and act.
