Alfred Merrill Worden is an American astronaut and engineer born on February 7, 1932 in Jackson (Mississippi) and died on March 17, 2020 in Houston (Texas)
He was the pilot of the Apollo Endeavor command and service module during the Apollo 15 mission in 1971 where he was able to make 71 lunar orbits.
Alfred Worden made a single flight aboard Apollo 15 from July 26 to August 7, 1971.
Following the Apollo 15 stamp scandal, like the other two crew members, he was excluded from space flights.
On August 5, while the spacecraft is on the return journey and it is 317,000 km from Earth, it performs a 39-minute spacewalk, the very first translunar outing in history, to recover in the service module of the photo cassettes of the lunar surface
