A long time ago, a very important detective named Sherlock Holmes was known to be the world’s best detective. Everybody knew him because every time there was a crime, Sherlock was the one who solved it. Nobody was a better detective than him because he was a very sly man.
One night, as he was walking along the dirt road, he heard a loud shout for help. He tried to locate the girl’s screams, but when he followed the sound, the girl was nowhere to be found. He looked everywhere for her: in the dark alleys, between the prickly bushes, up in the tall trees, down in the hidden spots and all around town. He went to the town sheriff and told him they must look for clues to find the missing girl. Then, the sheriff called his friends, and everybody started looking for the girl.
They were about to give up, when Sherlock Holmes found the first clue: he found an interesting feather on the floor! He began by dusting off the dirt, and swirling it around between his fingers. He even smelled it! He inspected it closely. It was a pretty feather; it was blue and yellow and green. « This is no ordinary feather, » said Sherlock. There is only one bird in this town that has original feathers such as this one. And there is only one man in this town whose bird has similar feathers!
Off they went to Mr. Fisher’s brick house. First, Sherlock looked around the lawn. « Ah ha! » he said, as he picked up another feather just like the one he found earlier. « This look familiar. » The feather looked just like the first feather they found!
Then, Sherlock and the sheriff circled the brick house and made their way to the back door. Right as they were about to open it and go inside, Sherlock saw a young girl tied up on a kitchen chair with her mouth covered by a red handkerchief and the kidnapper next to her.
Sherlock told the sheriff that he would catch the kidnapper in the house while the sheriff saved the missing girl. Sherlock ran in and fought the kidnapper to the floor, and tied his arms behind his back. Finally, the girl was saved. She was safe when Sherlock and the town sheriff brought her back to her parents’ home. Today was another successful day in the life of Sherlock Holmes and his crime-solving habits !
