Bonjour,
For many years, even for centuries arranged marriages have existed. Those marriages imply families to have the main role in choosing the partner they want for their children. It could be for religious or cultural reasons.
Those unions are still taking place in many countries like India or Pakistan ... Parents choose who their children will marry. And, for many there is no issue. They spend their life with someone they didn't choose. But, more and more often we can hear stories about young women who fight against this. Some of them even commit suicide to escape a future they don’t want.
Hopefully, it’ illegal in many countries. I think each one of us should have the right to make their own choice. Because I am also convinced that marriage should be seen as the union of two individuals. A union based upon a chosen mutual commitment. And there is a huge difference between making your own choice and undergoing family choices.
I am not a particularly romantic person, I don’t campaign for love! I just hold the conviction that arranged marriage should be banned worldwide.
