Bonjour,
I WAS WATCHING TV when my wife CALLED me. When she LOOKED UP, I realized that she WAS CRYING. I immediately THOUGHT that something terrible had happened. Actually, a mouse WAS RUNNING in the kitchen. I OPENED the door and it LEFT. It WAS late, and my son WAS SLEEPING. I SWITCHED off the light in his bedroom, but he HEARD me and he WOKE UP. So, I DECIDED to read a story but while I WAS READING, I REALIZED that he had fallen asleep again. So I LEFT his bedroom and I DIDN’T MAKE noise, and I WENT BACK to the living room. My wife WAS WATCHING TV again.
Explications :
Le prétérit Be + ing s'utilise pour décrire des actions qui se déroulaient dans le passé ( un peu comme l'imparfait )
Le prétérit vient lui interrompre la narration ( comme le passé simple ) par une action brève.
