Robinson Crusoé is an English adventure novel by Daniel Defoe, published in 1719. The story is very freely inspired by the life of Alexandre Selkirk. Written in first person, the main plot of the novel takes place on a desert island where Robinson, after having been shipwrecked, lived for 28 years. During his stay, he met a "savage" whom he named Friday. The two companions lived together for several years before they could leave the island.
