2 Most baby slaves are not allowed to stay with their parents and often had to go from one plantation to another.
3 When Harriet Tubman was a fugitive, she had to hide and travel by night to avoid slave catchers. Hopefully she was allowed to stay in a network of safe and friendly houses during the day.
4 During the Jim Crow laws, marriages between a white person and black person is forbidden.
