Bonjour,
Botany Bay is a cove in New South Wales, Australia in the eighteenth CENTURY, peoples convicted of CRIMES in Britain were sent there to colonise Australia. Most of them were POOR people who stole food because they and their families were HUNGRY.
Conditions at Botany Bay were terrible. Many men and women had to work shifts of TWELVE to fourteen hours and the work was very hard. For some people, Botany Bay was an ALTERNATIVE to being hanged. Botany Bay was CALLED Botany Bay because there were many different kinds of PLANTS , but actually the soil wasn’t very good for growing crops.
